Volunteer Compliance & Training Requirements
Below is the mandatory minimum training requirements for volunteers & must be completed before regular contact with an amateur athlete who is a minor begins,
or within the first 45 days of initial membership, or upon beginning a new role subjecting the participating adult to this policy.

HOW to initiate your Background Check is below & must be completed & verified in GREEN status to become volunteer.
If you are a new volunteer, you need to create an account first and register as a volunteer.
Renewing and Updating your Background Check if you are already an existing volunteer in AYSO.
Please note the following:
- If you plan to remain in AYSO, it is crucial to have your background check up to date.
- A background check must be done every year.
- You can renew your background check up to 90 days prior to the expiration date.
- You will receive a reminder 30 days in advance before your background check expires.
- Failure to renew your background check before the expiration date will affect your eligibility to volunteer as well as your Instructor, Region, and/or Area access on AYSOU (if applicable).
INITIATING YOUR BACKGROUND CHECK1. To initiate your background check, go to your region's website and login with your username and password.
2. Click on the Volunteer icon on the left-hand side. You should be able to see a list of your certifications to volunteer as well as your "Risk Status."
3. Click the checkbox to the left of Risk Status and then hit the button below that says, "Renew & Update" and that should trigger Sterling Volunteers to send you an email to start the background check process.
4. You should receive an email from Sterling within the hour at the email provided on your volunteer application. If you do not receive an email, make sure to check your spam/junk email folder.
1) Safe Haven (Annual Requirement)Safe Haven training is required for every AYSO Volunteer. It is an online course that teaches how to protect the children participating in AYSO.
If you have not yet registered as a volunteer, instructions are on the Register as a volunteer page.
Safe Haven Training is on AYSOU. Once you have registered as a volunteer, you can Access AYSOU
Once you have signed in to your AYSOU account, find the menu bar on the left, and click "Training Library."
Find Safe Haven Course Categories and click "View Courses"
2) SafeSport (Annual Requirement) - Compliance Criteria
How to Register for SafeSport
SafeSport Trained: Overview of facts, principles, and strategies to help you provide safe and positive sport environments (90 minutes)
Refresher 1: Recognizing and Reporting Misconduct (30 minutes)
Refresher 2: Preventing Misconduct (30 minutes)
Refresher 3: Creating a Positive Sport Environment (30 minutes)
3) CDC Concussion Awareness -Online Training (Required by the State of MI every 3 years)
Go to AYSOU from your Volunteer page on Sports Connect Mobile-First Region Portal
Select the "Training Library" tab on the left side of the screen.
Choose "View Courses" under the "Safe Haven" category of courses
Look for the "CDC Concussion Awareness-Online" and click the Enroll button
Once it takes you to the next page, click "Start" and begin the course!
4) Sudden Cardiac Awareness -Online Training
This is suggested Training for AYSO Region 942. Please fulfill this requirement.

Safe Haven Training is on AYSOU. Once you have registered as a volunteer, you can Access AYSOU

Find "Sudden Cardiac Arrest - Online" and click the "ENROLL" Button
Click the Start button and it will take you through the course.
5) Regional Board Member Training
Requirements will be completed in accordance with the volunteer job role.
